Are your kids wild about animals? The SPCA has launched a wonderful series of animal-focused day camps over the next few months, just in time to celebrate National Humane Society week!

SPCA One Day Animal Camps

The SPCA for Monterey County is offering one day Animal Camps for children ages 6 – 12.  One day camps are offered during school breaks and will cover a wide variety of fun and interesting topics, everything from dog care to wildlife rescue.  The fee for this awesomely fantastic new camp will be $55 per day and includes snacks and all materials needed for activities.  Campers can sign up for one, some, or all!  Camp sessions are from 9am to 3pm.

Dogs – Nov 25, Dec 29 (ages 6-12):  Discover the silly world of dogs! Learn all about dog communication, care and training. Create fun dog toys and make yummy dog treats. Spend lots of time with SPCA shelter dogs, play fun games and most of all – learn something new!  Register now!

Cats – Jan 2 (ages 6-12):  Explore the curious world of cats.  Learn all about what makes kitties tick, from body language to their amazing senses. Make fun toys for cats, as well as crafts to take home, play fun games, and spend lots of one on one time with adoptable SPCA cats!  Register now!

Wildlife – Dec 26 (ages 8-12):  Learn about the SPCA’s wild side! Learn how you can help wildlife, tour our Wildlife Center, and make toys for recovering SPCA wildlife patients. Meet some cool exotic adoptable pets and take a nature hike to find signs of wildlife at The SPCA. You’ll also meet adoptable cats, dogs, and more.  Register now!

National Day of Service – Nov 11, Jan 19 (ages 6-12):  Celebrate National Day of Service at The SPCA.  Learn about how The SPCA helps animals, visit with adoptable pets, and help care for pets such as cats, dogs, bunnies, horses, and more!  Learn how you can help, too!  Register now!

Talk With The Animals – Nov 24 (ages 6 – 12):  Have you ever wondered what your pet is trying to tell you?  Learn all about amazing animal communication, and how they use their bodies to send messages to each other.  Register now!

Home for the Howl-idays – Dec 22 (ages 6 – 12):  Help spread the holiday cheer at The SPCA!  Visit adoptable pets, make holiday themed pet treats, play games, and help our pets get into the spirit of the holidays.  Register now!

Barn – Dec 30 (ages 8 – 12):  Learn all about The SPCA’s farm animals down in the barn.  Play fun games, make pet toys, and spend time with horses, chickens, and lots of other adoptable pets.  Register now!

SPCA Volunteer Opportunities

Kiddos 12 and over can volunteer at the SPCA throughout the year, as long as an adult is accompanying them. And while the day camps do cost money, volunteering is absolutely free! Check out the opportunities below, and click on the links to apply!

Animal Care Volunteer (dogs, cats and small pets)
Focus on socializing and exercising our adoptable dogs (small and large), cats, and small pets (bunnies). Assist with cleaning adoption rooms, laundry, enrichment activities and helping customers with their inquiries. Apply now

Barn Volunteer (all barn animals including horses, rabbits, chickens, roosters, etc.)
Help barn staff with cleaning barn/stalls/cages, haltering, basic horse handling, grooming, feeding, hoof picking and enrichment activities for all barn animals. Apply now

Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation
Volunteers help staff rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife.  Tasks include preparing meals, laundry, cleaning cages, general facility maintenance, feeding wildlife, assisting with their care and record-keeping.  During “baby bird season”, (March-September), large numbers of volunteers are needed to assist with the feeding and care of baby birds and other wildlife. Apply now
